Maurice Leonard Reed was born in 1891 and grew up in the village of Beulah in northwestern Michigan. He graduated from Benzie Academy in 1914 and later attended Michigan Agricultural College, later known as Michigan State University. During World War I he was stationed at Camp Zachary Taylor, Kentucky- kept in the United States because he knew how to type.He married Ruby Marie Chase in 1918 and they eventually settled in Lansing, Michigan. Maurice obtained work as a Continuing Education teacher and truant officer for the Lansing School System. A lifelong learner, he loved to read, and took his growing family on camping trips throughout Michigan and the western United States. His hobby was weaving, and out of that passion would grow the business he named Reedcraft Weavers.These are his journals.
